Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr., U.S. Congressional Candidate for District 23 in Florida, praises the many accomplishments of African-Americans in this Nation. "The brave actions of Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Mary Mcleod Bethune, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice have led to the creation of a better America... and of course, there are many more African-Americans who have contributed positively towards the establishment and maintenance of our great Nation," states Dr. Thorpe. It is Dr. Thorpe's firmest promise to remain diligent in cultivating the next generation of heroic leaders within the African-American community and beyond.

"In light of the mounting negative pressures being placed on our youth and on our communities, I ask you to join me in creating a new generation of role models, leaders, and thinkers," states Dr. Marion D. "African-Americans must not be lulled by the soft bigotry of lowered societal expectations, nor should we rest on the laurels of accomplishments by those who preceded us," explains Dr. Thorpe.
