Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr., Congressional Candidate for District 23 (FL), strives to spotlight the accomplishments of Florida's Hometown Heroes. It is Dr. Thorpe's observation that many Floridians are due credit for their caring and compassionate acts of goodwill and outstanding achievement. "In the fifteen (15) years that I have been a Floridian, I have personally been awed and amazed by the acts of kindness and public service that have been extended by Floridians. It is my hope that my Congressional Campaign can be fully utilized to spotlight our outstanding Floridians throughout the 2008 election cycle," states Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr.
In alphabetical order, Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr., proudly acknowledges the humanitarian advances stimulated by the actions of Joe Bernadel, Barrington Irving, Malachi Knowles, and Justin Sayfie:
Retired Army Major Joe Bernadel, the first person of Haitian ancestry to open a public school in the United States, has diligently served Delray Beach, Palm Beach County, and our Nation as the founder of Toussaint L'Ouverture High School for Arts & Social Justice.
Barrington Irving, a 23-year old Jamaican-American majoring in Aerospace at Florida Memorial University climbed into a single-engine plane called "Inspiration" and embarked on a 26,800-mile, round-the-world flight from March 23, 2007 to June 27, 2007: thus, becoming the first person of African descent and the youngest person ever to fly solo around the globe.
Malachi Knowles, a graduate of Morgan State University, the University of Oklahoma, and a lifetime member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity who has provided numerous opportunities for disenfranchised youth in Palm Beach County, the U.S., and abroad, is the founder and President of Inner City Youth Golfers, Inc. and the Chairman of African American Golfer's Digest.
Justin Sayfie, a White House Commissioner on Fellows for Leadership and Public Service and a native south Floridian, provides open and extensive news coverage for Floridians and Americans via The Sayfie Review, Sayfie News, and Purple Florida in a manner that promotes political enlightenment, discussion and unity amongst a broad array of partisan and bi-partisan topics. Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr., proclaims, "Categorically, it is my distinct honor to bring these fine gentlemen to the attention of my support base as well as to the attention of all Americans."
By shining a spotlight on our Hometown Heroes, Dr. Thorpe is hopeful that he will spark the desire to positively serve others within our youth and adults.
