Former Chief Medical Officer of Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration under Governor Jeb Bush

 

*Marion D. Thorpe, Jr. MD MPH is the former Chief Medical Officer of the State of Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Thorpe developed and implemented health care policy at AHCA that focused on the following:

1) Health Care reform;
2) Health Care Information Technology;
3) Health Disparities.

Additionally, Dr. Thorpe directly advised the Secretary and the Agency on health policy and planning, and served as liaison between the Agency, Physicians and health care providers, and Floridians.

Dr. Thorpe is a graduate of The Asheville School, and he received his Bachelor of Science with honors from Duke University. Dr. Thorpe is a graduate of the combined degree program with Dean's distinction for outstanding academic achievement, whereby he simultaneously received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Medicine, and his Masters of Public Health in the field of Health Policy and Administration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Public Health.

With more than 25 years of experience as a health policy advocate and leader in the fields of public health and preventive medicine, Dr. Thorpe has demonstrated a passion for advancing the quality of health care for all. As a health care CEO and private-sector Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Thorpe leads the integration of emerging technologies into Florida health care and medicine and works vigorously towards developing and implementing sound health care reform. He serves on numerous health care boards, including the Board of the Broward County Medical Association (BCMA), and is a recent delegate for the Florida Medical Association (FMA).
